The sun is shining; the temperatures are high; this will probably make you think about the must-have summer essentials you need in your wardrobe. Since most of us are not in our teens anymore, we sometimes struggle with finding the right wardrobe essentials that go with our age and lifestyle.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I did a must-have summer wardrobe essentials you need in your closet about a week ago. I posted a daily picture with my favorite to go outfits in the Summer. Some pieces were new, but many of them were from a few seasons ago.
I promised to write a blog post about this, so that is easy for you to look it up, and I went online to look up some cute current styles that I consider must-have wardrobe essentials for the Summer.
Trends may come and go, but I believe that style is something that will stay forever. If you build your wardrobe foundation around a few classic pieces, you can add some trendy pieces each season. This will make you look put together without too much effort or as I love to say effortless chic.
As promised here is my top 10 in random order on the must-have summer wardrobe essentials you need in your closet:
1. Denim jeans
A good pair of denim jeans are a forever wardrobe staple. In the Summer, I prefer a lighter wash than my go-to dark wash I usually wear in the fall or winter. Currently, I love the trend of the ribcage jeans and especially Levi’s ribcage in color Georgie. I have been wearing that pair non-stop this season. I am a mom of three, and since having children, I prefer high-waisted jeans for many reasons.
Your favorite mom jeans or boyfriend jeans in a lighter wash are also the perfect summer wardrobe essentials.
Whatever style you prefer, make sure that it fits comfortably and that you can move freely in it.
2. Beautiful Top
When picking a top for the Summer, makes sure you choose one in a breathable material. Breathable materials are cotton, linen, chambray, rayon, or blend. You do not want to wear a top that sticks to your skin when it is hot and humid.
My favorite tops are ones with a colorful print and unique details like dramatic sleeves or ruffles. When a white or other monochromic top has those unique details, I would love to have that in my wardrobe as well. A top with some unique details makes it easy to wear from day to night.
3. Jumpsuits
Jumpsuits I simply can’t get enough of them. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I wear jumpsuits a lot. I have always been an enormous lover of dresses, but lately I am switching more towards jumpsuits. When buying one, make sure to get one in breathable fabric for the Summer!
Just like dresses, they come in different prints, and they all have various details.
I love that you can wear a jumpsuit during the day with flip flops or slides. In the evenings, you can add some heels to make them dressier.
4. Shorts
I was not a big fan of shorts in my twenties and boy I have missed. I used to associate shorts with the beach or holidays. I would wear the ones you would make yourself by cutting off an old worn-out pair of jeans. The shorts I have seen the last couple of seasons are better than the oldies I would wear, and they are a must-have summer wardrobe essential for your closet. You have them in different kinds of colors and prints, and I currently love the paperbag versions. Pair them with a cute top, a white tee, or a bodysuit, and you are good to go.
5. Chambray dress
It has the same look as Denim, and we all know how versatile Denim can be, but the feel of chambray is different. It is lighter than Denim, which makes it more wearable in the Summer.
You have chambray dresses in all different models dresses come in. A wardrobe staple is the chambray t-shirt dress. I need to replace mine after I have been wearing it for many summers.
6. Floral print dresses
Not everyone loves a print, but I am sure a lot of people love a good floral print.
Floral prints are so versatile you have different kind of florals and with that also different kinds of prints. Whenever I see a floral print in a dress, it just reminds me of warmer days. Invest in a good one, and this will be your must-have summer wardrobe essential.
7. Little white dress
You might have heard a lot of times that every lady should own a little black dress. I also believe that every lady should own a little white dress (aka LWD). This is a must-have summer wardrobe essential for your closet.
White is the perfect summer color, and an LWD is a classic to build your summer wardrobe around. The only problem I see with wearing white is how to keep it clean.
8. Swimwear
It could be for a dip in the swimming pool or the lake, we all need swimwear in the Summer. I am a huge fan of one-piece swimsuit. They are so darn cute nowadays that you can easily wear them with your shorts and look like a cute top. If you are more of a two-piece kind of gal, I’ve got you covered as well. I like to choose swimwear items that will be good for the coming summers ahead. And for my fellow mommas out there. Please don’t wait to have the perfect summer body to get yourself in swimwear. There is no such thing as an ideal summer body, and your children will only remember all the fun you had with them.
9. Maxi dresses
Maxi dresses are easy to throw on, on a hot summer day, and you don’t know what to wear. You can accessorize them just the way you want to create the perfect look for the occasion you had in mind. I find that they create such an elegant look but yet so effortless.
10. Denim jacket
I think I had my first denim jacket when I was a baby, and I am in my thirties now do I need to say more! My daughter had her first denim jacket when she was a baby as well. And I can’t think back of a summer that I didn’t use my denim jacket. Invest in a good one and wear it year after year.
Denim jackets are a must-have for the cooler summer nights or the rainy days.
These are my must-have summer wardrobe essentials. I am sure everyone has different opinions and style choices, but I believe you can build a good summer wardrobe with these pieces. Please let me know if any of these pieces are in your closet and what you think might be missing on the list.
Thank you so much for reading!
