In the content creating world, many of us have been busy with the upcoming Black Friday. I spent many hours online, and truth to be told, I see the sales popping up everywhere. I have nothing against big retailers, but I wanted to highlight some of my favorite small businesses to shop from this Black Friday. They are Canadian and most of my picks are women-owned.
The pandemic has made things challenging for many small businesses. I have chosen to talk about these businesses today on the blog because not only do I shop from them, but I also had the fantastic opportunity to work with a few. For me, that has been a dream coming true. As a small content creator, I get a chance to work with brands I love. I feel fortunate to do that, and I have been dreaming about this for years.
All these businesses made a statement in June this year during the Black Lives Matter movement, and they have kept their promise or even donated to organizations. I see more diversity in their campaigns, and I noticed they work with diverse content creators. I am so glad to see that change because representation matters.
So here it is I have created my list of small businesses to shop from this Black Friday.
Gentle Fawn
When I just moved to Montreal I discovered Gentle Fawn in a local boutique. Timeless, feminine pieces with a twist. Gentle Fawn is a Vancouver brand founded by Carla Hogg and they sell high quality clothing for the modern women. Some of their pieces are dressier and perfect for but they also have daily pieces to easily dress up or down. Their Black Friday Promo is currently 50% off from their fall items, and it is so worth it! You will not regret this!
Suetables
A friend told me about this jewelry brand last summer. And she was surprised I never visited their store. The moment I walked into the store, I fell in love. It can be a bit overwhelming because there are so many items to choose from, but they have excellent staff working in the store, and they explain everything to you. Suetables jewelry comes in silver, gold, and rose gold. You have the option to personalize your jewelry, and that makes it even more special. I still need to work on my jewelry game, but I currently love their earrings and bracelets. The price tag is so good you can have beautiful high-quality jewelry without breaking the bank. They will announce their Black Friday deal on Black Friday, so make sure to follow them on Instagram.
Daub & Design
Lexi, the founder of Daub & Design, inspired me to write this post. She did a story on the Daub & Design Instagram page about how we should not forget about small businesses to shop from this Black Friday. Daub & Design is a Vancouver based activewear brand. I did a blog post on them a few weeks ago. It is the only tie-dye I will wear, and I love how passionate Daub is about their fabric selection and being sustainable. I love their non-medical face masks, and I have currently set my alarm for the launch of their yoga mats (they will sell out fast).
Daub does not have any significant Black Friday sales because its production process (made in Canada) is tailored not to overproduce. As a form of appreciation to their loyal fanbase, they currently have some discounts on certain items worthy of checking out.
I love Tyler Madison (ILTM)
The most comfortable pants ever! ILTM is a Montreal brand owned by two sisters. I discovered this brand in the same boutique where I found Gentle Fawn. I was looking for pants that were comfortable and would work well with my postpartum body. I fell in love with one of their waxed pants, and these pants are on repeat ever since. Since then, I have bought a few other models, and they also kindly gifted me two summer pants. Their current campaign is so diverse, and ILTM is diverse and body inclusive. I love this about the brand! Make sure to check out their social media to see what Black Friday discount they have going on.
Trend Savvy Official
When I first bumped into Trend Savvy’s website, I was a bit confused (sorry). It is probably more tailored to Gen Z, and I bet you if my younger sister read this, she will be you see Sharifa, you are an Oma (grandma). I must admit I do love and enjoy their daily stories on Instagram they are just hilarious, and content creators like Dominique Baker, Westmountfashionista and Melissa Soldera got me hooked (you are warned). You can’t beat their insane discount on already discounted current items, so I am not sure what they will have up their sleeves for Black Friday. Make sure to check out their Instagram for current discount codes
Shipping is fast unless they tell you it will take longer, and their customer service is the best.
Trend Savvy has made huge donations during the Black Live Matters movement in June, and they work with a diverse group of content creators. The company has a big heart for giving; as they have made many donations to help charities throughout Canada.
I have bought many pairs of sunglasses (the discounts are insane), shoes, jackets, sweaters and they carry so many luxury and affordable brands.
La Marque
Montreal based brand La Marque. They make the most beautiful leather jackets. I call this brand edgy chic. Not sure if that’s a word or a style. Next to leather jackets, they also carry beautiful clothes and non-leather outerwear. They are on the pricier side, but they have good sales. Their Black Friday Promo is currently 30% off new items and 10% extra on sale items.
I own a few jackets and some of their other clothing pieces. The quality is excellent, and it makes you stand out in the crowd.
LOA label
LOA label is a Montreal based brand founded by two mompreneurs. They are known for their beautiful tailored blazers (made in Montreal). They have just launched some lounge wear to the collection as well. I love the color of their blazers and quality. Their Black Friday promo is a 25% sidewite discount.
